Graham Coxon was the quiet bespectacled guitarist in Blur. Now, on his fifth solo album (his second since leaving Blur), Coxon has really found his own voice in terms of critical and commercial success.
All this is done not with vitriol, but with a good humour that shines through on almost every track. The album sounds like Coxon is having the time of his life, and Stephen Street's production has brought out the very best of Coxon's musical and vocal ability.
Though a thoroughly original album, if you like Blur's 'Coffee and TV', then chances are you'll love 'Bittersweet Bundle of Misery', and when Coxon cranks up his guitar on the riff before the vocals cut in on 'Freakin' Out', I defy Skids fans not to start singing 'Into the Valley...'.
