"A poor mans Blur" was how Liam Gallagher described the Kaiser Chiefs in a recent interview. Whether you agree or not, there's certainly no shame in drawing comparisons of any kind to one of the finest bands of the modern generation.

Musically, there are a number of similarities if the truth be told. With "Parklife" voted into the Top 40 albums of all time recently, the Kaiser's debut, "Employment", has a fair way to go to achieve anything like musical parity. That said, they appear to be having one hell of a go at it.

At times the likeness is uncanny, especially on "Team Mate", which would undoubtedly go unnoticed as an extra track on "Blur" or "13". However, you never get the feeling that the they are trying to copy our favourite Mockneys, more that they are one of many strong influences.

What the Kaisers do best though are the punk-tinged, shouty anthems, the likes of which groups of lads up will be bouncing up and down and shouting to when they are played in bars and clubs at the weekend. This is a view obviously shared by their record company given their choice of singles so far, "Everyday I Love You Less And Less", "I Predict A Riot" and "Oh My God".

The album as a whole is a truly fantastic debut, with 11 of the 12 tracks well worthy of a single release (I'll let you try and work out which one isn't!). It is already a nomination for album of the year and will undoubtedly be up for a number of "official" awards once they are announced.
